I have put together a powerpoint of silly, fun, and themed pictures that the students must Quietly on their paper come up with a theme song for. So under the picture is a # and a one word theme.
Example:
-If a movie was made for this current event: what songs may play during the video?
Example:
#1
Superhero
1. "Batman theme song"
or
#2
danger
2. "Had a bad day" or "Jaws theme song"
Then once we are done we turn the theme to a current event article: "Typhoon in the Philippines"
1st: the students mark the text AVID SS style
2nd: On chart paper:
The teacher prompts the answers & fills in the chart paper with a copy of the article and the questions
