Essential Questions: In what ways has geography influenced the settlement patterns and lifestyles of people in the United States? Why do geographers use maps in order to study the physical and cultural landscape of North America?
Materials: string, computer, maps,  crayons,

Opening:
  • Attendance + Fill in your Agenda time
  • Homework: The maps will be collected at this time and checked
  • HOOK:” Longitude and Latitude” http://youtu.be/swKBi6hHHMA and “The Latitude Song” http://youtu.be/MjDqhLUzCpE
  • Ask them what longitude and latitude are, now that they have been fully briefed in the before videos.
Map Reading activity:
  • http://www.enchantedlearning.com/geography/mapreading/1.shtml
  • The students will follow the directions given on the activity in their seats and when they are finished they will discuss as a team. They may not cheat, but they will be able to ask their team any clarifying questions that they may have.
  • Add The Southern Most Tip of the US and the Volcano
  • discuss differences between Hawaii and Florida + North and South... but were all part of the US
Scavanger Hunt:
        -The students will do the Scavanger hunt provided in the textbook as A TEAM.
