Duties and Responsibilities of Citizens Chapter 3: Lesson 3 Day 1 Textbook: pages 62-69 Hook: http://www.wordle.net/create The students will be asked to come up and add words in to create a worlde on "The Duties of Citizens". Vocab: Responsibility, welfare, duty, tolerance, volunteerism, register, and draft. The students will understand the duties and responsibilities that are required of them as United States citizens. Agenda: The students will be in stations for the next 2 classes. Station One: On the smartboard students will get a chance to interact with “Lady Liberty”. This is a follow up to September 11th. http://ladyliberty.national911memorial.org/#/Explore/1/4 This is an interactive lady liberty memorial for 9/11. Station Two: The students will be reading in the Textbook: pages 62-69. They will be answering the following questions: What are the duties of a citizen? Which duties apply to you? Do you think the United States expects too much or too little of its citizens? Should certain responsibilities, such as voting or military service, be required of all students? Station Three: Play iCivics games on the laptops in the back of the room: Start with the ones you did not finish last class and then move on to the next ones- First: Cast your vote Second: Do I have a right? Third: under Constitution: Argument Wars Forth: Responsibility Launcher Fifth: Station four: Make posters for the Nike Shoe Drive They will make a poster to hang up in the school to advertise their 7th grade shoe drive. They need to plan it out and work together Station Five: Grade their homework in the workbooks (pages 30-38).
